Dr. Shashank Sharma is a Respiratory Consultant and provides care that is respectful and responsive to individual patient needs. He is passionate about taking a holistic approach to managing patients with chronic respiratory conditions.

 

Dr. Sharma completed his MBBS in India from TN Dr. M.G.R Medical University in Chennai in 2002. To pursue his interest in Respiratory Medicine, he continued his quest and in 2004 graduated with a Diploma in TB and Chest Medicine from VP Chest Institute in Delhi.

 

​He joined the NHS in the UK in 2004 and commenced his journey towards becoming a Respiratory Consultant. After completing his core medical training in Wales, he moved to London for higher training in Respiratory Medicine.

 

Dr. Sharma received the Best Newcomer Prize in April 2008 during the first year of Higher training. During this time, he completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Medical education to further his interest in medical education. In 2014 he successfully finished his higher training and became a Respiratory Consultant.

 

Dr. Sharma now practices at the NHS Ashford and St Peters Hospital (ASPH), where he has introduced Medical Thoracoscopy which is a highly regarded service. He has also set up collaborative MDT with Royal Brompton Hospital to improve the care of patients with Pulmonary Fibrosis at ASPH.

 

Dr. Sharma is also the Respiratory lead for Undergraduate education and regularly conducts outreach educational sessions in Primary care.

 

At ASPH, as the Respiratory Lead, Dr. Sharma has led the departmental response to the Covid-19 Pandemic and has developed an expertise in acute as well as Chronic/ Long Covid. Along with his colleagues, He developed virtual clinics for the management of Covid-19 patients using home oximetry. This has now become a national practice during the second wave of Covid-19.

 

Dr. Sharma has received Clinical Excellence awards in 2017 and 2020.
